Among the participating universities in the competition are Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), University of Benin (UNIBEN), University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).
Others are the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM, formerly University of Agriculture Makurdi), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU, formerly Kogi State University), and the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).
Speaking on the benefit of the partnership to the competition, Varsity Cup CEO, Olamide Adeyemo, said: “This exciting collaboration brings together two vibrant entities with a shared commitment to energising the future of Nigeria’s brightest student-athletes. Varsity Cup is pioneering inclusion in Nigeria’s collegiate sports as the country’s first annual university football championships for men’s and women’s teams. Managed by Perform, it is in partnership with the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) and sponsored by Moniepoint and Hyphen Sports.
