Semi-Final Preview First Leg: JOSTUM vs OAU

The National University Football Championships Semi-finals are upon us and the stage is set for an exhilarating round of matches that will see University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University (JOSTUM), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) square off in a quest for the title.

The journey through the group stages was an intense one. Now, as the competition heats up, only two will emerge victorious to reach the finals. Let’s dive into the semi-final matchups and see what’s at stake.

JOSTUM vs. OAU: Defense Vs Attack?

First Leg: JOSTUM Football Pitch, Makurdi | Oct. 29th, 3 PM

Second Leg: OAU Sport Complex, Ile-Ife | Nov. 5th, 3 PM

JOSTUM, the surprise package of the tournament, enters the semi-finals after a resilient performance in Group B.

Known for their disciplined defense and tactical mindset, they held their ground in a tightly contested group and emerged with the qualification ticket. Their campaign included a vital 0-0 draw against group leaders UNILORIN. This game proved that they’re capable of containing even the most aggressive teams.

On the other side is OAU, a team that exudes much confidence and talent. Led by their skipper, Olanrewaju Yekini, they topped Group A with flair and delivered standout performances that left the fans in awe.

OAU’s style of play which is built around fluid movement and quick transition makes them a constant threat in the final third.

For JOSTUM, containing OAU’s attack will be a daunting task but their sturdy backline may just be up to the challenge. With a player like goalkeeper, Jacob Targema in goal for JOSTUM, who is yet to concede a goal in the competition, OAU have got a genuine problem to worry about when they take on their opponents.

While OAU might be coming into this fixture as the favorite, JOSTUM will certainly be no pushover. The first leg in Makurdi will be crucial for JOSTUM to establish a foothold before heading to Ile-Ife for the decider.
